Garden Thyme

Garden thyme, is one of the most well-known medicinal plants of the mint  genus, and is used medicinally in traditional medicine in Iran and Europe. This herbaceous and aromatic plant has many medicinal properties and it is used in various food, pharmaceutical, health and cosmetic industries. This plant is an excellent medicine for the respiratory system and diseases such as colds, bronchitis, asthma, influenza. This plant is also a good medicine for the stomach and eliminates stomach disorders in terms of digestion and bloating in general. Thyme has strong antifungal and antibacterial effects, and this property is due to the presence of thymol and carvacrol in thyme essential oil, which is why thyme is widely used in mouthwashes and oral products. Thymol or thymus oil, which is present in the composition of the plant essential oil, is the main source of antiseptic properties, is absorbed through the mucosa and is excreted in the urine. Its decoction is used effectively for disinfection, dressing and washing of wounds. It is used in medicine to prepare gargle solutions for disinfection of the throat and cough drops, and in dentistry for the preparation of mouthwash solutions. Known in the pharmaceutical trade as a fungicide. Thyme essential oil has been shown to have antispasmodic, antitussive and expectorant effects, but long-term and excessive consumption of thyme is not recommended, it is also better to avoid thyme during pregnancy and lactation and children under 6 years. .
